Elementary Curriculum Coordinator

Position Summary

The Elementary Curriculum Coordinator provides leadership, support, and coordination for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning across the District's elementary schools. This position works collaboratively with building administrators, teachers, instructional coaches, and district leaders to ensure consistent implementation of curriculum, instructional best practices, and assessment systems. The Elementary Curriculum Coordinator supports continuous improvement efforts, promotes student achievement, and assists in aligning instructional practices with district goals, state standards, and research-based educational practices.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Curriculum Leadership & Instructional Support

  • Supports the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of elementary curriculum programs.
  • Collaborates with teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators to ensure curriculum alignment with district goals and state standards.
  • Assists in curriculum review, adoption, development, and revision processes.
  • Supports the implementation of evidence-based instructional practices across elementary grade levels.
  • Provides guidance and resources to support effective classroom instruction and student learning.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of district instructional initiatives.
  • Promotes consistency in curriculum and instructional practices across elementary schools.

Assessment & Student Achievement

  • Assists with the implementation and coordination of district assessment systems.
  • Supports the collection, analysis, and interpretation of student achievement data.
  • Collaborates with administrators and teachers to use assessment data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Assists in monitoring student performance trends and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Supports intervention and enrichment efforts designed to improve student outcomes.

Professional Learning & Staff Development

  • Plans, coordinates, and facilitates professional development aligned with district goals and instructional priorities.
  • Provides training and support related to curriculum implementation, instructional strategies, assessment practices, and educational initiatives.
  • Coaches and supports teachers in implementing effective instructional practices.
  • Assists with onboarding and supporting new teachers.
  • Facilitates collaboration among grade-level teams, professional learning communities, and district committees.

Program Coordination & Continuous Improvement

  • Supports district and building school improvement initiatives.
  • Assists with accreditation processes and program evaluations as assigned
  • Coordinates curriculum-related projects and implementation timelines.
  • Research educational trends, best practices, and emerging instructional resources.
  • Assists in evaluating instructional materials, digital resources, and educational programs.
  • Supports grant-funded academic initiatives as assigned.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborates with building principals, instructional coaches, teachers, and district leaders to support academic programs.
  • Maintains effective communication with staff regarding curriculum, assessment, and instructional initiatives.
  • Participates in district committees, leadership teams, and professional organizations as assigned.
  • Serves as a resource to staff regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • Valid South Dakota teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement(s) required.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level.
  • Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, professional learning, or educational leadership preferred.
  • Experience analyzing student achievement data and supporting instructional improvement preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of elementary curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment systems.
  • Knowledge of South Dakota content standards and educational requirements.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies, intervention systems, and differentiated instruction.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation processes.
  • Strong leadership, organization, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, students, and families.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and move throughout school buildings.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for writing, typing, and handling materials.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to visually and audibly assess classroom meetings and school activities.

Work Environment

  • Office environment and school buildings across the District.
  • Frequent interaction with District staff, administrators, support staff, students, vendors, and the public.
  • Frequent travel to District schools and off-site meetings or events.
  • Exposure to a variety of work environments, including classrooms, offices, and group meeting spaces.
